Faire Corps
2024
‘Faire Corps' is a piece I began developing as part of my year-long residency at Space Clarence Mews. This work peels back the layers of the body through movement, gathers the remains of charcoal on paper and, in a back-and-forth exchange, embodies this dialogue between physical body and memories. Following different stages with a soundscape, the body becomes a tool for writing its own story, tearing itself apart from top to bottom, dismembering itself to construct a new body on paper. Like a mirror, it reflects itself, and eventually we can see through it, the layers and lines blurring to become a body of its own. Standing. Still. As. One.
For the purpose of the residency, the piece began with a one-hour workshop, based on the structure of my previous workshop 'Building Palimpsest Bodies', except that this time my drawings and canvases surround the participants.
The idea was to see if the visual environment could influence a somatically oriented workshop with movement and drawing/marking.
